Choosing a rug – (Marilyn Cleland, Interior Designer, Tauranga)
Rugs are an essential decorating accessory but choosing the correct colour & style has always been a challenge. The role of a rug in the total decor of a home is varied, often they need to dominate & create a conversation area & in other situations the role of the rug is to create a background to blend with existing furnishings.
For a long time there has been nothing new on the rug scene, but the good news is, that has just changed.
At long last over dyed Turkish rugs have arrived in New Zealand. These stunning rugs are made by stripping most of the original colour from a vintage rug, then over dying the wool. The rugs original pattern is still retained but now adds different values to the rugs new over dyed colour.
These rugs are available in both fashion colours & gorgeous muted shades, they can be placed directly into traditional decors & also work well in very modern settings. One design shows a patchwork effect created by cutting & stitching several smaller rugs together. These rugs are works of art & become collectors items.
Over dyed vintage rugs are available in a range of sizes to suit most rooms.

They start out as genuine vintage rugs that have the pile trimmed back & then over-dyed with a strong dominant single colour. The end result to is a very contemporary but distinctive, one off floor covering that allows you to instantly enhance or make a statement to any urban space. Patchwork rugs are pieces of vintage rugs that are hand selected & matched, then joined together (blanket stitch) & lined on the reverse with a heavy cotton backing. The rug is then over-dyed. Vintage over-dyed patchwork rugs are very strong & can handle placement in heavy traffic areas.
